As part of the 25th anniversary celebration of the Journal of Management Accounting Research (JMAR), the journal's current editorial team decided to put together a panel discussion at the Management Accounting Section's 2014 Research and Case Conference. The hope was to recruit distinguished researchers with a variety of perspectives to opine on the successes and failures of the past 25 years of management accounting research and, perhaps more importantly, to look forward to what the future has to offer.
We were thrilled that all those whom we asked to participate were willing to do so. While I will not repeat all of their qualifications here, suffice it to say that each panelist has a distinguished record of academic research. Fortunately, each also has a keen awareness of and connection to management accounting practice. Despite their similarly successful careers, the panelists brought varied backgrounds and perspectives to the table....
