In January 2021, the senior editors of JIS organized a workshop aimed at generating research ideas for potential JIS publications on data value creation. The following panelists from industry and academia were invited:

The aim of the workshop was to bring together Accounting Information Systems (AIS) researchers, representatives from national and international organizations, leading accounting firms, and accounting organizations to have a conversation on data value creation challenges and research opportunities. Prior to the workshop, we surveyed the attendees to determine their knowledge and experience in this area. We found that 45 percent had low to very low knowledge about data value creation and measurement and only 15 percent had a high level of knowledge.
