This case study of the KPMG–PCAOB regulatory data theft scandal describes an unprecedented legal and ethical breakdown at one of the largest global audit firms and touches on controls and compliance breakdown at the PCAOB. After completing this case, students will be able to better understand the ethical and professional deficiencies that caused KPMG and PCAOB employees involved and their respective organizations to compromise their duty to investors.
