The following directions are handed out to students at the onset of the project. The purpose of these directions is to give students guidance in administrative procedures relating to the case.

After the students receive the instructions for the case and the intentionally vague client fact sheet, they are required to develop a set of initial questions prior to the client meeting. The questions are emailed to and answered by the client/instructor prior to the client meeting; this allows students to prepare follow-up questions for the client meeting. Appendix A provides a list of commonly asked student questions along with client answers for each case scenario. At the client meeting, the client/instructor answers follow-up questions and asks the students to investigate a client-specific hypothetical situation as it relates to their tax plan.
