As U.S. companies do business internationally, they may find that in many countries bribery is not illegal, and it may even be an accepted business practice. There are likely many instances where bribes have paved the way for businesses to expand and eventually succeed globally. While bribery is essentially outlawed in the U.S. and several other countries, it has become a part of some countries' business practices. Bribery is basically rooted into these countries' traditions. As U.S. companies continue to expand globally, some may be unprepared for the business environment and the harsh realities of global business. For example, is ABC management ready to compete in the marketplace with an international company that gets a tax deduction for the bribe that it pays to the same public official that ABC is dealing with in the bidding process?
