This special forum consists of a series of essays that propose an agenda for education research in accounting.

The project is intended to inspire research ideas in areas that are under-investigated, previously not investigated, or in need of updating. The inspirations in this project are from a group of scholars with a wide variety of research experience in both accounting education and other accounting disciplines (see Table 1). Their instructional interests and academic experiences vary widely, but each has a desire to enhance accounting education in the hope that their students may be more successful and productive in the business community.

The external forces affecting the academic accounting profession are substantial. Student populations in the U.S. and many parts of Europe have decreased (Nietzel 2019; National Student Clearinghouse Research Center 2019) and are expected to decline further (Fox 2019; Mizikaci and Baumartl 2015)....
