In May 2017, the current editor of Issues in Accounting Education, Valaria (Val) P. Vendrzyk, contacted me in connection with a manuscript that Dana Hermanson had submitted to her for review and possible publication in Issues in Accounting Education. (This paper, titled “25 Reflections on Accounting Research,” appeared in Issues in February 2018.) An accompanying note from Val indicated that “[the paper by Dana] gave me the idea that others might want to submit similar retrospectives about their careers (in accounting education) … what if we invited retrospectives that include teaching, and possibly changes in academia over the years?” She then suggested a special section in which I would serve as guest editor for such a compilation of self-reflective papers.
